Ghana
Ahead of the opening of polls on Wednesday morning, Ghanaians spent Tuesday night preparing for the exercise.
Whiles the electoral commission dispatched electoral materials to the various polling stations, unorthodox long queues were formed in the early hours of Wednesday at polling stations across the country.
People reserved their positions in the queue with just about anything they could find to ensure they are among the first to vote.
To facilitate voting for students 18 years and above, the Ghana Education service has declared Wednesday an off day for all basic and secondary schools.
Ghana’s incumbent president, John Dramani Mahama is seeking reelection after winning the last elections in 2012.
He faces six other candidates in the race.
His biggest challenger is two-time losing opposition leader Nana Akufo Addo.
There are also 1,158 parliamentary candidates vying for a seat in the 275 member parliament.
Over 15 million voters are expected to cast their vote in about 29 thousand polling stations in 275 constituencies.
